The Khronos Group, responsible for the standard cross-platform and open for application programming graphics 2D and 3D (maximum competitor of Microsoft's DirectX) has released the final specifications of the new OpenGL 4.2 version.
A year after version 4.1, comes the new revision of the standard OpenGL and among the innovations, aimed at developers, are faster than libraries, the update of the language of shadowing, shaders more advanced and general improvement in performance, significantly reducing the need for memory storage and bandwidth.
User-level what matters to us is that the large group of companies which supports the standard to implement as soon as possible support for the new version. The first has been NVIDIA with a set of drivers 280.28 for Windows and Linux with support for OpenGL 4.2 in a wide range of graphics cards, Quadro professional and consumer GeForce.
AMD will also provide it immediately with the release of new version of the suite Catalyst 11.8. Let us recall that version 4.2 of OpenGL is compatible with earlier versions of the standard by which all the improvements that are able to implement the developers them can enjoy with products of past generations.
